14 October 2022: Why vote?
Many people are not planning to vote in this year's elections because "it doesn't matter".
They are wrong - there are marked differences between the candidates of the major parties. Here are some examples:
* Should elections be determined by who gets the most votes as counted or should politicians be able to determine the winner based on their gut instinct of who should have won? See https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/republicans-trump-election-fraud
* Should women have the right to abortions? If not, it will also affect their health care when pregnant (https://www.nytimes.com/2022/08/01/us/abortion-journey-crossing-states.html ) and even if not pregnant (https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2022/10/05/abortion-arizona-arthritis-prescription-refill/)
* Should we take steps to control gun violence, or do we just need more "hope and prayers"?
* Should government focus on providing for the general welfare of the middle class or should its focus be on reducing taxes for the wealthy and limiting business regulations?
* Should government be concerned about consumer protection or should we just "let the buyer beware"?
* Should we support Ukraine or Russia in the war? Is Putin a "genius" who we should support no matter what he does?
* Should public officials have experience in successfully performing the tasks that are part of the job they are running for, or is being a good speaker enough?
Voting and political involvement are our responsibility in democratic countries. We should be grateful that we have these opportunities - people elsewhere in the world only hope and pray that they may have US style elections in their future.
Voting is very easy now in most states with absentee ballots and early voting. Do your job as a citizen and vote.
