16 November 2016: We can vote before the next election
As an activist fighting the GOP's march towards fascism, I have decided that although I cannot vote in State and Federal elections for 2 more years, there are important things I can do now, by voting with my wallet. I am subscribing to the New York Times and Washington Post, which are working hard to defend our liberties, even if I don't agree with all of their positions. I am supporting businesses that pay their employees a living wage (Trader Joe's, Costco), and avoiding businesses whose CEO's are hazzers (pigs in yiddish), such as CVS (see CEO Pay Ratios). In general, my belief is that we should not purchase from big businesses, unless we have no alternative, or we have strong evidence that they are supportive of democratic principles, such as following the law, paying reasonable taxes, and treating their employees and customers well. I also am boycotting anything owned by the Trump family or Fox News, including local affiliates. Finally, I am pursuing my "democracy job" that I have chosen for 2017, of working to increase voter turnout locally and statewide by regularly contacting elected officials.
What are you doing?
