18 December 2015: More evidence that Michigan is in a "race to the bottom"
This article illustrates once again how Michigan is in a "race to the bottom". Our acquiescence to corporate parasites, who believe in government of the wealthy, by the wealthy and for the wealthy, has made our state unprepared for likely crises. Technically, the State budget may be balanced, but only because we are not adequately funding necessities, things like roads, sewers, public health, mental health, public K-12 schools and public colleges and universities. Instead, our Governor and government are "kicking the can down the road".
These are the best of times economically in Michigan, because we are at the top of the cycle for our auto dependent economy. If we can't afford the necessities now, what will happen during the inevitable downturn?
The answer is clear. Nobody wants to pay more taxes, but we the wealthy and in the business community are not paying our fair share. We get a disproportionate benefit - our economy allows us to make, and keep, very large incomes. We need to pay more.
