19 June 2020: Community Supported Agriculture (CSA)
This week I picked up my first of 20 shares of produce grown on Detroit farms as part of a program called CSA, http://www.citycommonscsa.com/about-us/. I paid $525 for weekly portions of produce, announced each week, and picked up at a farm in Detroit.
For the first week, I received:
Salad Mix
Strawberries
Head Lettuce
Garlic Scapes
Green Garlic
Cooking Greens (? Swiss chard)
Sweet Cherries
Chamomile
Oregano
Baby Beets.
I think it is important to do what I can to make the world a better place. I personally like the idea of helping small Detroit farmers and promoting agriculture in the city. This is much more appealing than shopping at stores that give their CEOs multimillion dollar pay but deny their employees a living wage. But even without the politics, the food is good and it is interesting to visit different parts of Detroit and see the area in a different context.
