20 September 2022 - Ferndale's statement for the 2022 Voter Challenge
This is the third Voter Challenge we have held. For 2022, it is between the Michigan communities of Berkley, Ferndale, Huntington Woods, Lathrup Village, Oak Park, Pleasant Ridge, Royal Oak and Southfield.
The prizes are $1000, $500 and $250 for the cities in this "Next Door" group that have the highest voter turnout in the November 2022 election, based on totals from Oakland County Elections. In addition, any city that has at least 75% turnout will get $250 and any city with an 80% turnout will get $500, but cities can only get one award.
In 2022, Ferndale, Michigan had a turnout of 77.86%:
Per Anthony Essmaker, the Ferndale City Clerk:
"The City of Ferndale is committed to encouraging voters to exercise their right to vote in the most secure, efficient, and convenient way possible.
As the City moves forward, we continually send applications for mail ballots for those that are on our permanent application list. We also hope to grow this list so that more voters can take advantage of the convenience of voting from home ahead of election day.
The City of Ferndale is currently in the process of evaluating and observing all of its election-related activities. This includes ensuring we are wholly compliant with all laws, regulations, and best practices, seeking the input of Inspectors, and hoping to obtain voters' input to determine the most critical areas for improvement.
We hope that this feedback, and a focus on simplicity and efficiency, will help improve the voter experience and turnout."
We hope that every community can get at least 80% turnout in this election and that they strive for 90% or more. Voting by eligible residents is now easier than ever using "no excuse" absentee ballots. You can start voting absentee as early as Thursday, 29 September 2022. The traditional voting day is Tuesday, 8 November 2022. See https://mvic.sos.state.mi.us/ for details.
