22 December 2019: Where are today's leaders?
Congratulations to Christianity Today for their recent editorial at https://www.christianitytoday.com/ct/2019/december-web-only/trump-should-be-removed-from-office.html, which highlights what should be obvious to all:
1. Trump Should Be Removed from Office.
2. The president of the United States attempted to use his political power to coerce a foreign leader to harass and discredit one of the president’s political opponents. That is not only a violation of the Constitution; more importantly, it is profoundly immoral.3. The reason many are not shocked about this is that this president has dumbed down the idea of morality in his administration. He has hired and fired a number of people who are now convicted criminals. He himself has admitted to immoral actions in business and his relationship with women, about which he remains proud. His Twitter feed alone—with its habitual string of mischaracterizations, lies, and slanders—is a near perfect example of a human being who is morally lost and confused.4. Consider what an unbelieving world will say if you continue to brush off Mr. Trump’s immoral words and behavior in the cause of political expediency. If we don’t reverse course now, will anyone take anything we say about justice and righteousness with any seriousness for decades to come? Who else is willing to speak out against our progression to fascism, against a President who claims that the Constitution gives him the right to do whatever he wants, see https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2019/07/23/trump-falsely-tells-auditorium-full-teens-constitution-gives-him-right-do-whatever-i-want/ , and whose lawyers claim that he could commit any crime with impunity, see https://www.nytimes.com/2019/11/15/opinion/trump-supreme-court.html? This means the President could decide to imprison or kill his political opponents or simply anyone, for any reason, without recourse. Can any rational person support this?
All of us need to act, to do more than what we are doing now. We cannot topple the sand pile of evil by ourselves, but we can add a grain of sand from time to time, and that will eventually achieve results. Support a political campaign, contact your public officials, volunteer for a public institution, act to reduce climate change and stop feeding wealth inequality with your purchases. We also need to fight evil, whether in the form of Trump, Murdock or the Republican Party which now worships Trump.
Think of your children and grandchildren - what are you doing today that is more important than standing up against this evil?
