23 August 2022: What is your voting plan?
The next US election is on Tuesday, 8Nov22, only ~ 77 days away. I suggest that every US citizen check that they are currently registered to vote and have a plan on how they will vote in this election.
Many elected officials are trying to "game the system", to make voting more difficult for those that are less likely to vote for them or their party. In response, all of us need to make plans on how we will vote and to encourage our family members and friends to vote.
In Michigan, eligible voters can get an absentee ballot and start voting on 29Sep22. Why wait until 8Nov22, which is not really "election day" but the "last day to vote day"? To me, voting by absentee ballot is the best option. You can vote at home, turn in the ballot to your city clerk and be done, over a month before the "last day to vote". You can track your ballot online at https://mvic.sos.state.mi.us/Voter/Index/. There is no need to worry about the weather, about long lines, about personal emergencies or even voter intimidation at the polls. Vote early and be done!
I see no reason why every city should not have a voter turnout of 80% or more. I am trying to do this for my neighboring cities through my third Voter Challenge, see http://natpernick.blogspot.com/2022/08/22-august-2022-this-years-southeast.html, but you can set up your own program or efforts to increase voter turnout.
Let's use social media and whatever mechanisms we have available to tell others what you are doing to increase voter turnout.
