25 January 2017: Donald Trump's Health
What can we expect regarding the health of Donald Trump, the oldest incoming American President? Due to Trump’s secrecy and altered views of reality, we need to consider not only what we know based on past disclosures, but what we can reasonably suspect.
First, it is possible that Trump has at least microscopic evidence of prostate cancer, which has been documented in 33% of American men aged 60–70 years and 46% of men aged 70–80 in autopsy studies. When present in men his age, it tends to be more aggressive than prostate cancer found in younger men. Trump’s PSA, a screening test for prostate cancer, was reportedto be 0.15 ng/ml, which is exceedingly low, and possibly an error.
Update - Trump's physician recently indicated that he takes Finasteride / Propecia for male pattern baldness, which appears to account for the low PSA.
Second, it is possible that Trump has disease not disclosed. He may be deliberately hiding it or simply have decided not to discuss his symptoms with his physicians. Supporting evidence is the letter from Trump’s “sham” medical doctor, which is so inappropriate that it is suspicious, as well as Trump’s repeated assertions that his health is excellent. In addition, the person who says “I know more about ISIS than the generals do, believe me” likely believes he knows more about medicine than his doctors, and may reveal medical symptoms only when he, the expert, believes them to be important. Yet at least in my world as a physician for 30+ years, I have found that to attain optimal health, we must be honest and objective with our medical providers and seek rational treatment, which are not Trump’s attributes.
Third, Trump is borderline obese, with a body mass index / BMI of about 30, depending on his weight, which has reported as between 236 and 267 pounds. Being overweight (BMI of 25-29.9) or obese (BMI of 30+), is the second largest preventable cause of death in the United State, after tobacco use. It is associated with heart disease, cancer, diabetes, stroke, liver disease and other serious health problems, as well as being an independent risk factor for sudden death .
Finally, it is likely that Trump suffers from sexual dysfunction, which may partially explain his predatory sexual behavior and repeated offensive statements regarding women. Although common in older men, his feelings of shame due to sexual inadequacy may be another reason that he refuses to adequately disclose his medical records, and why his political appointments appear to be highly influenced by personal loyalty.
