26 August 2020: 2020 Voter Challenge Update
I am pleased to announce the second voter challenge between Berkley, Ferndale, Huntington Woods, Lathrup Village, Oak Park, Pleasant Ridge, Royal Oak and Southfield.
The prizes are $1000, $500 and $250 for the cities in my "Next Door" group that have the highest voter turnout in the November 2020 election, based on results as reported by Oakland County Elections. In addition, any city that has at least 75% turnout will get $250 and any city with an 80% turnout will get $500, but cities can only get one award.
I have contacted City officials in these 8 cities to choose, in advance, the charity to receive the prize if their city wins. It could be their recreation department or something else that benefits the residents and generates excitement about the contest, but not the general fund. I will publicize them as they are announced.
This is the second year I have sponsored the voter challenge. For 2018, there were actually 2 challenges, one between Huntington Woods and Pleasant Ridge, and one between Berkley, Ferndale, Oak Park, Royal Oak and Southfield (I omitted Lathrup Village in error), based on what seemed to be fair competitions. After the election, I presented checks to the cities of Huntington Woods ($1,000), Berkley ($1,000) and Ferndale ($500), see https://natpernick.blogspot.com/2018/12/12-december-2018-2018-voter-challenge.html.
The totals for the November 2016 election are posted at https://natpernick.blogspot.com/2020/06/9-june-2020-2020-voter-challenge-has.html.
