28 January 2016: Letter to my State Representative
Dear Rep. Wittenberg,
Thanks for your response. I have written to Governor Snyder asking him to resign, and am asking others to also do so because the Flint and DPS crises, as bad as they are, are merely symptoms of an underlying failure by Governor Snyder that will persist even if he lessens these current crises.
Governor Snyder lacks a basic understanding of democracy and public service. He has used his office, in many respects, as a "friends and family" program, transferring wealth and political power from the many to the few. He has undermined public infrastructure and those programs which promote the general welfare, all in an attempt to enrich those like him. He himself, despite his high IQ and impressive educational background, is unable to admit personal mistakes, and to understand his own deficits. He can discuss "fact based decisions" and transparency, but these terms mean what he wants them to mean, and he will continue his behavior based on his rigid dogmatism.
We need to do all we can to get Governor Snyder to resign, so we can start to reverse the decline he has brought about in Michigan. Michigan, like Detroit a few years ago, is unsustainable. State government may have a surplus, but it is unable to fund the institutions at the levels needed on an ongoing basis. Considering that this is the "best of times", with record auto sales, we can anticipate accelerated crises when the auto cycle heads downward, as we know it will.
Please consider meeting with your colleagues to determine what pressure can be put on Governor Snyder to act in the best interest of the people of Michigan and step down.
