30 December 2019: The Lincoln Project
I recently joined The Lincoln Project, see https://www.nytimes.com/2019/12/17/opinion/lincoln-project.html, https://lincolnproject.us/. I am a lifelong Democrat, a progressive liberal, the son of the first Democratic chair of the Oakland County Board of Commissioners. But we should support our conservative friends (including David Trott and Christianity Today) who show courage by opposing Donald Trump and the Republican Party.
I don’t know what one thing will change this country’s descent towards fascism (when the President’s lawyer says he has absolute immunity and can shoot someone without any consequences, that is close to fascism), but there are a lot of small things that will help, the same way they changed the composition of the House of Representatives. Each week, I log what I have done. This week, it is supporting campaigns for worthy individuals or organizations.
I worry what will happen to our Federal government, and I think you should worry too. We have to do more to prevent things from getting worse. What we choose to do is up to us, but we need to act.
