6 September 2020: Letter to Vice President Pence
6 September 2020
Vice President Michael Pence
The White House
Office of the Vice President
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, N.W.
Washington, DC 20500
Dear Vice President Pence,
Is your loyalty greater to President Trump or the U.S. Constitution? Viewed objectively, President Trump is unfit for office. As a physician (pathologist) and attorney (retired), based just on public videos, President Trump cannot distinguish fantasy from reality (based on his conspiracy theories regarding thugs on a plane, COVID-19 hoaxes and election fraud), cannot conform his conduct to the law (by asking North Carolinians to commit felonies by voting twice), cannot remember what he said or did in the recent past (numerous instances in which he contradicts video evidence) and is incapable of telling the truth consistently (more than 20,000 false or misleading claims in 4 years).
Your oath of office is to the U.S. Constitution, and you should either urge him to resign, resign yourself or invoke the 25th Amendment, Section 4.
The future seems clear. On the one hand, the United States may descend into dictatorship, and you will be identified in history as one of its chief enablers, with your family name held in shame forever. On the other hand, if democracy prevails and we have new leadership, you will be remembered as the chief enabler of at least 250,000 American deaths due to COVID-19 and the lapdog of Putin's apprentice.
You claim to believe in the Bible, but any religion teaches the difference between good and evil and strives to inspire and motivate us to show the courage to resist evil. Can you do that?
This is the time for you to choose - life or death, the blessing or the curse, good or evil. I hope you make the right decision.
Very truly yours,
NAT PERNICK, M.D.
