8 April 2016: Why Hillary Should Withdraw
Hillary Clinton should withdraw from the Presidential campaign, for the good of the country, for these reasons:
First, Hillary is incapable of reversing our society’s downward spiral, brought about by greed and anti-government individuals and organizations. Our future, although difficult to predict precisely, is imperiled by numerous chronic conditions, including a crumbling infrastructure, wealth inequality and widespread disillusionment with the political process. Although motives are difficult to determine, it is almost as if some people are trying to destroy this country from within, particularly evident in Michigan, where Governor Snyder undermined a vote of the people, poisoned the water and unleashed water borne deaths due to infectious disease. Individually, each condition may be difficult but possible to solve, but if they interact, the resulting crises may be overwhelming.
We need a visionary, like Bernie, who passionately supports campaign finance reform and disrupting wealth inequality, with a record of leadershipand success, and who inspires others to follow. At best, Hillary can mouth the words, and although it is theoretically possible that she will aggressively work against those she has begged to fund her campaign, this seems unlikely.
Second, although her positions are reasonable compared to the irrational rhetoric of the GOP, again and again she has been wrong on major decisions (Iraq, Libya, Trans Pacific Partnership, gay marriage, carbon tax, Keystone XL pipeline, $15 minimum wage) , and seemingly has adopted sounder positions only as a political strategy. In addition, she actively criticizes progressive policies that are the norm for other advanced societies – her vision is that vision is bad. This is not the type of leadership that will enable this country to survive creeping oligarchy and declining infrastructure.
Third, her own personal flaws and conduct make her incapable of bringing about necessary changes. She is obsessed with and addicted to big money. She is a major part of the Democratic Party establishment, with its own ties to big money and Wall Street. The entire email server controversy and speeches to Wall Street shows how her obsessions interfere with her judgment.
Hillary has not inspired Americans to any degree like Bernie. She is not attracting Independents, Republicans or large crowds. She is working the establishment ties of the Democratic Party, but even so, has lost 6 of the 7 most recent primaries with wide margins, and despite widespread efforts to “rig ”the system in her favor, now is polling even with Bernie nationally.
Finally, if elected, she is unlikely to sweep in major changes in the composition of the House and Senate. She is a strongly polarizing figure, and will be unlikely to get support from the likely GOP controlled Congress. In fact, we can anticipate a continuation of the existing hearings and investigations against her. Even worse, I suggest that the GOP will find it irresistible not to impeach a second Clinton, even if they cannot convict.
The only reason for Hillary to stay in the race is because she believes she is entitled to be President. Unfortunately, the United States faces challenges to its survival as a world power, and needs the type of leadership that she simply lacks. She should withdraw.
