Congratulations to the Berkley High School (BHS) class of 2024 and to the winners of various scholarships.

My family is pleased to have contributed to scholarships for Math, Orchestra, Science and Writing for 2024 and congratulates the winners (text and photos are from BHS and permission to disseminate was granted):
Pernick Family Scholarships
We are proud to announce that Phoebe Brand (Orchestra), Mia Echlin (Writing), Oliver Moss (Math) and Alex Wright (Science) are the recipients of the Pernick Family Scholarships. These scholarships were established by Nat Pernick, parent of BHS graduates Sam, Rachel and Leah Pernick. In gratitude for the great instruction they received in these subjects at BHS, they have established these annual scholarships for excellence by BHS students in the subjects of Math, Orchestra, Science and Writing. Congratulations to this year's recipients!
Mrs. Vaughn states that "Phoebe marches to the beat of her own drum and that’s what I love about her! Her curiosity and ability to critically assess ideas is unparalleled. She is not concerned with just “checking all of the boxes”, rather Phoebe cares about actually learning and engaging with new information. With this type of thinking (and the perfect bob), the possibilities for Phoebe are endless and I can’t wait to see what the future holds."
Mrs. Coburn states that "Mia is an amazing leader in and out of the AP Art & Student Leadership classrooms. She received a Gold Key award for her Scholastic Art & Writing portfolio and did very well in her submissions to the Art & Design AP board, two years in a row. Mia joined Student Leadership her senior year which is no easy task and absolutely rocked it. Additionally in her senior year she took on many rigorous classes and flourished in them all, all the while dedicating to the Be Drama theater and lighting crew. She is hardworking and dedicated no matter what endeavor she takes on, yet still humble, fun and understated throughout it all. "
Mr. Duffy states that "Oliver possesses that rare combination of skills: a capacity to imagine what has yet to be imagined and an ability to will it into existence. Our world is a better place with Oliver out there, doing their thing, bringing their passion, and seeking solutions to some of our most pressing issues. I wish them all the best as they continue their journey into college."
Mr. Fadoir states that "It has been a real joy to teach Alex! His easy going style is contrasted by his work ethic and desire to learn. Every difficulty encountered with cheer and is ultimately defeated. Alex is a natural leader with the ability to guide the class towards greatness by setting a great example."
Congratulations Phoebe, Mia, Oliver and Alex!
