COVID is still killing people, but less than before

These are the highlights from a recent report in Bridge Michigan:
COVID-19 deaths in Michigan dropped from 2,900 in 2023 to ~1,400 in 2024.
COVID-19 now causes about as many deaths in Michigan as the flu and pneumonia.
Experts attribute the decline to growing immunity from vaccinations and prior infections but caution that the virus is still present.
Nationwide, COVID-19 deaths were:
2020: 345,323 - #3 cause of death after heart disease, cancer, see also here
2021: 416,893 - #3 cause of death after heart disease, cancer
2022: 186,552 - #4 cause of death after heart disease, cancer, accidents
2023: 49,928 - #10 cause of death
2024: not available
Editorial comment:
I estimate that at least 200,000 of the total 1.2 million American COVID-19 deaths (as of April 2024) were due to the lies and inaction of then President Donald J. Trump about COVID-19 regarding masks and vaccines.
In my opinion, Trump as President will continue to be a danger to the health of Americans because he regularly makes statements that endanger our health without any regard for the consequences. In addition, his policy actions seem indifferent to the effect they will have on the health of Americans. Thus, we should expect to see large numbers of avoidable deaths in the U.S. as long as he is in power.
In addition, I try to minimize my interactions with those who claim COVID-19 is a hoax or that vaccines are dangerous. In my opinion, they are not just doing evil but are killers too.
