If we want a society that truly values the middle and working classes, we need to stop propping up billionaires and billion dollar corporations.
The big banks are posting record profits, which they’ve used to back Trump and the GOP’s agenda of tax cuts for the wealthy and cuts to essential services for everyone else. But we don’t have to wait until the next election to push back. One practical step we can take right now is to move our money to credit unions and community banks. Personally, I see no reason to keep supporting the massive banks that undermine democracy and siphon wealth away from the middle class.
As part of my own effort to boycott the billionaires, I transferred my accounts to local banks and credit unions. It did take some work to reroute automatic payments and deposits, but now everything functions just as smoothly as before. And I can feel better knowing my money isn’t fueling the same institutions that helped trigger the 2008 financial crisis and rigged the economy for the ultrawealthy.
We can’t change everything overnight, but we can start making small, meaningful choices today.
So when will you stop supporting the big banks that are harming our country?
