I sent this letter recently and urge you to send similar letters to your colleges or universities:
Dr. Ono,
I write as an alumnus (MD 1983, JD 1986), the father of 2 alumni and the brother of another. My business (PathologyOutlines.com) also sponsors scholarships at the Medical and Law schools.
I have 2 suggestions for UM:
1. Follow the example of Harvard and do not be held hostage to Trump and his bigoted policies. Reject his "settlements", which don't bind the federal government in any way. By banding together against Trump, the universities can prevail. UM has generous alumni who can help offset any punishments until Trump is out of power.
2. UM should set up a department, center or something similar for federal healthcare related employees who have been fired or quit, to allow them to continue their work to the extent possible at UM. Again, I think alumni will help fund this.
These efforts will be great publicity for UM, confirming that we have integrity and leadership when others do not.
I would be happy to support these efforts.
The index to my prior essays (mostly post 5 November 2024) is here.
I have another blog on Cancer and Medicine.
