These tips are based on how honest and decent people should behave - I don’t claim they will generate better results.
It is OK to ignore messages that are hostile, abusive or inappropriate, or you can report them to the online dating site.
Be honest. Use your actual age, pictures that are representative of how you look when someone meets you and preferably are no more than 3 years old. Everything in your profile should be more or less true.
If you are interested in someone, write at least 2 complete sentences telling them about yourself and why you are interested.
If someone messages you and you are NOT interested, you should respond at least once, if you can do so without having to pay money to respond. A simple, “Sorry, I don’t think this is a good fit” is enough. You don’t have to explain your feelings or respond further.
If you respond that you are interested but change your mind, you are obligated to respond further, at least once. It could be, “Sorry, this no longer works for me because … I am too busy, my life has changed, or something else.” Ghosting is not acceptable, online or otherwise.
I think we should focus on being the best people we can be, and most likely, that will lead to a better life for us. Let me know what you think.
