Palestinians should clean up the mess they created in Gaza.
The Palestinians elected the current government of Hamas in 2006 in relatively free and fair elections. There has been minimal public dissent against this government by Palestinians in the Middle East and the United States.
This elected Palestinian government of Gaza started the 7 October 2024 war with a terrorist attack that killed 1,200 Israelis, many young adults attending a music festival. They also kidnapped 250 Israelis.
Why have Palestinians taken no responsibility for the actions of their elected government?
Why has there been no Palestinian condemnation of any aspects of this terrorist attack by their government?
The humanitarian crisis in Gaza would be greatly diminished if the Palestinian government released the hostages and stopped its attacks. Palestinians and their supporters in the U.S. are regularly protesting against the actions of the U.S. and Israel by disrupting college graduations, political functions, traffic and in other ways, so they certainly know how to protest.
Why are Palestinians not protesting the actions of their own government in Gaza? Do Palestinians actually care about the lives of Palestinians in Gaza? If so, why are they not demanding that their government release the hostages and end their attacks?
Palestinian public officials in the U.S. have repeatedly condemned the governments of Israel and the United States.
Why are these Palestinian leaders not condemning their own government in Gaza, which started the war, is continuing the war and is indifferent to Palestinian lives lost? Why aren’t they traveling to the Middle East to try to end the war?
The military leader of Hamas has said he believes he has gained the upper hand over Israel and that the spiraling civilian death toll in Gaza would work in the militant group’s favor, according to a report by the Wall Street Journal, citing leaked messages the newspaper said it had seen.
“We have the Israelis right where we want them,” Yahya Sinwar told other Hamas leaders recently, according to one of the messages, the WSJ reported Monday. In another, Sinwar is said to have described civilian deaths as “necessary sacrifices” while citing past independence-related conflicts in countries like Algeria. CNN
“We are called a nation of martyrs,” said another top Hamas official, Ghazi Hamad. “And we are proud to sacrifice martyrs.” He promised more attacks: “There will be a second, a third, a fourth.” When asked whether he sought the annihilation of Israel, Hamad matter-of-factly replied, “Yes, of course.”
This is not simply terrorism, which is the use of illegal violence to achieve political objectives. It is cold-blooded human sacrifice, and on a scale that evokes the ritual slaughters of ancient times. The Hill
Why are Palestinians not protesting the actions of their government that is using Palestinians in Gaza as human sacrifices to pursue its goal of destroying Israel?
Do Palestinians and their supporters actually want the war to end now? Or do they only want it to end on terms that promote the destruction of Israel?
If Palestinians truly value Palestinian lives in Gaza, they should immediately:
Call for the Palestinian government in Gaza to release the hostages and stop all military activity
Expose known or likely locations of Palestinian terrorists and weapons in Gaza
Provide Israel, the United States or third countries with the known or possible locations of the remaining hostages. Since Gaza is small and densely populated - Palestinians likely know where weapons, militants and hostages are located.
Most Americans condemn violence and unnecessary deaths. But we cannot try to save Palestinian lives if the Palestinians themselves are indifferent and unwilling to help. If Palestinians want to preserve the lives of Palestinians in Gaza, they must take action against their own government that started and is maintaining the war.
