We should start preparing mentally, if not financially, for the likely Trump recession or worse (it could be a worldwide depression). I previously outlined the causes here but I will update that soon. Many of us will survive it OK but only if we have the right mindset and act reasonably.
Prices will likely rise dramatically for some goods and services. We need to change our habits and buy and do other things that cost less. This is much more effective than whining.
Some services will not be readily available because there are not enough workers due to deportations and lower immigration. We will have to do things ourselves, do without or find alternative ways of getting the most important things done.
It will be much harder to do many things that are now relatively simple. There may be long lines. It may take days to do things that usually take minutes.
Many people will lose jobs and it will take longer to find new ones.
Expect the Trump administration to lie regularly. They won’t call it a recession. Government statistics will paint a rosier picture than what we experience.
Expect the Trump administration to scapegoat certain groups for why things are not better. In the past, they blamed immigrants, minorities and Muslims. They may expand to LGBTQ individuals, Jews, liberals and political opponents. Expect more threats and violence.
We can minimize the suffering by:
Hastening the removal of Trump from power (legally) and doing what we can to limit his power in the interim.
Reducing the power of the Republican Party and its supporters.
Avoiding right wing media.
Preferring small businesses to large businesses, because small businesses don’t have so much power to abuse.
Getting more politically involved so we can influence the future and understand it better than now.
