President Biden is the best person to handle the multitude of problems confronting the United States
3 July 2024
It is clear to me that Joe Biden is the best candidate to handle the multitude of problems affecting the United States and the world, including:
Attacks on the rule of law and other foundations of our democracy by Trump and the Republican Party
Reforming the U.S. Supreme Court to reverse its terrifying decisions, including Dobbs (eliminating the constitutional right to abortion) and Trump vs. the United States (giving the President the powers of a king), both put in place by Trump appointees
Strengthening our NATO alliance against aggression by Russia, China, Iran and North Korea (Trump wants the U.S. out of NATO)
Strengthening the global alliance to counter climate change (Trump and the Republican Party think climate change is a hoax)
Promoting strong economic growth worldwide (Trump and the Republican Party support tax cuts for the wealthy and cuts to Medicare, Social Security and other governmental programs to pay for them).
President Biden has a great record. Name one President who has done as much in his first term, including the miracle economy, providing leadership on global conflicts and appointing competent people with minimal evidence of scandals. Historians ranked him as the 14th best President out of 45 and ranked Trump as dead last. President Biden appeared tired in his debate performance and is not always great on TV, but which would you rather have - a President who gets things done but is sometimes lackluster on TV or a President who always looks great but gets little done?
I am from Michigan and think our Governor, Gretchen Whitmer is doing a great job. But objectively, there is no Democratic (or Republican) public official that comes close to the experience or success of President Biden in tackling difficult issues and getting things done well.
In contrast, Donald Trump appears deranged and incompetent in almost everything he says or does that has actual value, other than entertainment. He is inadequate as a CEO. He turns everything he touches into chaos. He is impotent at solving problems - that is why he never had an infrastructure plan or a replacement for Obamacare. Every statement he makes is about himself. His main successes are being an entertainer and a successful con artist. He is very successful at attracting a loyal following who support his bigotry against immigrants and nonwhites and believe his lies about winning the 2020 election, widespread election fraud and climate change being a hoax. Many of his appointees and associates have been convicted of crimes or resigned under pressure because of scandal. As a result of his disastrous record and his plans to become a dictator, many prominent Republicans are supporting Biden over Trump based on Biden’s moral character and commitment to democratic values.
There is no doubt that President Biden has done a great job for the United States and that Donald Trump would be a disaster as President. This is not a close case. However, if most Americans believe Trump would do a better job, then we are doomed and we deserve all the terrible things that a Trump presidency (or dictatorship) will bring.
Those who want what is best for America should support the Biden campaign and the Democratic Party. Even if we don’t like politics, we should be able to find something we can do to support Biden and the Democrats to prevent the horrors that Trump and the Republican Party have already announced. We need to ignore the polls and media pundits, none of which have a great track record at prediction, and get to work to save our democracy.
