I have signed up for the group Health Care Providers for Harris-Walz and urge other healthcare providers to do so, click here.
Harris-Walz support these important policies and Trump-Vance do not.
Restore the reproductive rights of women and girls that were eliminated by Trump’s appointees to the U.S. Supreme Court. Harris-Walz have made this a priority. Trump is now wishy-washy on this topic but there is strong evidence he will ban both surgical and medical abortions as President.
Expanding maternal health programs. Harris and Democrats believe that ensuring adequate healthcare for women, girls and children is a priority. Republicans and Trump consider preventing damage to fertilized eggs (existing or potential) a higher priority.
Protecting birth control. Harris and Democrats support broad access to birth control, including hormonal birth control, the morning after pill and IUDs. Trump and Republicans do not.
Improving access to health care. Harris-Walz support retention and expansion of the Affordable Care Act. Trump has repeatedly tried to abolish this act with no known replacement other than “it will be great”.
Encouraging all states to expand Medicaid. Initially, many Republican led states opposed the expansion of Medicaid. President Biden offered incentives that worked for some of these states but there are still 10 holdouts - Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kansas, Mississippi, Tennessee, Texas, South Carolina, Wisconsin and Wyoming (see above map). These holdout states account for most of the rural hospital closures over the past decade and tend to have the highest percentages of uninsured adults and the highest infant and maternal mortality rates.
Reducing drug prices. Biden-Harris have made reducing drug prices a priority and have been successful, although they are working on adding more drugs. Trump has not made this a priority for his administration.
Taking action on climate change. Harris-Walz have a long record of pro-environmental activism, in contrast to Trump’s claim that climate change is a hoax.
Passing laws on gun violence prevention. Harris-Walz have a long record of working to reduce gun violence. Trump pledges to appoint judges who will oppose new gun limits.
As a physician, I care about these issues. I am working hard for the Harris-Walz campaign and to support Democrats at the Federal, State and local levels. I hope you join me.
