PathologyOutlines.com is pleased to support Detroit Public School students with its 15th year of scholarships through the Detroit College Promise and its second year of awards for the Pernick Prize, both run by the Detroit Public School Foundation.
The recipients and donors are listed here:
I believe it is important for successful businesses to make charitable giving a major part of their business, because:
It keeps us grounded on the importance of people, our community and our nation.
It counters the natural tendency of capitalist institutions and business people to focus on maximizing profit at the expense of everything else.
It provides needed support for our residents, communities and nation, in addition to whatever taxes we pay.
I also believe it is important to inspire and motivate all of us, including the young, on the importance of political involvement, and gave this short speech at our annual reception held at the Detroit School of Arts:
Congratulations to the winners of the Pernick Prize, the Detroit College Promise Scholarship and other scholarships. I hope that these awards inspire and motivate you to succeed.
Here is a suggestion to help you become more successful in life - get more politically active. Pick a candidate, an organization or a cause that you believe in, and get involved.
There are 3 ways this political involvement will make you more successful.
First, getting politically involved will give you more self-confidence. You are now a more important person in the world. You are involved. You are not just complaining but doing something to make the world a better place.
Second, others will be impressed with your political involvement because they know that this is not an easy thing to do. There are lots of reasons to do nothing but it’s more impressive when someone is doing the hard work.
Third, getting politically involved will help you understand better how the world actually works. It’s hard to get things done, not because of conspiracies, but because that’s the way life is - it usually takes hard work and persistence and a long time to bring about change.
Congratulations once again.
