This post (here) by historian Heather Cox Richardson gives the American history of this holiday, celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November in the United States, the second Monday of October in Canada and at similar times elsewhere.
Thanksgiving is also the traditional time for radio stations to play Arlo Guthrie’s song, Alice’s Restaurant.
