The Republican Party, which for decades has claimed to represent the “real America", has been recruiting self-funding ultra-millionaires to run in many competitive U.S. Senate races this year.
Florida: Senator Rick Scott is worth $250 million+ and made his money mostly from for-profit healthcare. The Democratic opponent is former Representative Debbie Mucarsel Powell.
Montana: Republicans are running Tim Sheehy, a CEO worth $74-$200 million against Senator Jon Tester.
New Mexico: Republicans are running Nella Domenici, a financial executive worth $21-$94 million against Senator Martin Heinrich.
Ohio: Republicans nominated Bernie Moreno, a car dealership owner worth as much as $168 million. to run against Senator Sherrod Brown.
Pennsylvania: The GOP candidate is David McCormick, a hedge fund manager worth $62-$184 million, running against Senator Bob Casey.
Wisconsin: Republicans are supporting Eric Hovde, a financial executive worth at least $67 million, to run against Senator Tammy Baldwin.
That's quite a way to represent "real America”.
Republicans did this on purpose, and admit that they did this on purpose. They are struggling to keep up with Democratic small dollar fundraising, Trump has turned off many Republican big donors so turning to ultra-millionaire self-funders is “all they have left”.
