For the United States to move forward, a sizable number of voters for Trump and other Republican candidates must realize that they have been conned; i.e. they were deceived about what Trump and the Republican Party will do if elected.
Of course, we don’t know what will happen when Trump’s term begins in 2 months. But will his voters admit they were deceived if the evidence is there?
Many people cannot believe that they can be wrong about anything or cannot admit it publicly. They emulate Trump, who rarely admits he is mistaken, most likely because he views it as a weakness. His belief that he is always right and knows more than the experts is why he fails in almost everything he does, other than deceiving people. Successful people take risks and admit when they fail. They learn from their mistakes. Losers are simply incapable of doing that. If you have continuous troubles, it may be because you cannot admit to making mistakes and thus cannot learn from them.
Do you believe that Trump cares about improving your life? Where is the evidence that Trump cares about anybody but himself, his family and others like him? Would it be enough for you if:
Trump’s tariffs cause profound inflation.
Trump’s actions cause a recession or depression in the next 4 years.
Trump’s actions lead to a large number of avoidable deaths, as with COVID-19.
It becomes more difficult to get an abortion in the U.S. or even to talk about it.
It becomes more difficult to get hormonal birth control, IUDs or in vitro fertilization.
China, Russia, Iran and North Korea start what could be a world war.
Or would you just blame this on Biden and Harris? If Trump is so smart and powerful, why do bad things keep happening to him and why do so many of his appointees call him evil and incompetent?
Of course, Trump and the Republicans are experts in misinformation. Prices may increase but Trump’s loyalists in government may produce reports claiming that there is no inflation, even though you clearly see it. Will you be able to see through Trump’s lies or will you believe whatever he says?
These are my suggestions to prevent being conned by anyone:
Stay away from individuals or institutions who are dishonest or indifferent to the truth. Admittedly, this is tough for many Trump supporters and Republicans because they believe the lies (e.g., COVID-19 is a myth, climate change is a hoax, Trump won the 2020 election, etc.) or are addicted to Fox and other right wing propaganda. Also, stay away from media that makes you emotional - it’s hard to think straight when our emotions are aroused.
Don’t think that you can “manage” con men like Trump, Murdock, Musk or other professional liars. Remember that Trump killed hundreds of thousands of Americans who believed him over their physicians about the dangers of COVID-19. Listening to lies over and over again can make anyone a believer.
Admit your mistakes and think about what you did wrong to lessen the chance that it will happen again.
Instead of regret, recognize that you are in the company of many others, but start working for the Democratic Party to atone for your sins and fix the problems that Trump’s voters have caused.
