7 November 2020: Letter to President Trump to resign
7 November 2020
President Trump,
What's next? Although you may think you won the election, you will be leaving the White House on 20 January 2021.
Here are my thoughts:
First, you have to deal with your legal difficulties. As a retired lawyer, my assessment is that you will be charged with numerous federal and state (New York) crimes. The best option would be for you to resign now and get pardoned by VP Pence. Perhaps it is possible to negotiate with the State of New York regarding its charges. Unfortunately, you have waited too long and have little to bargain with. Perhaps they will be satisfied if you liquidate all your business interests or provide full disclosure of your business practices, but I don't know if that will work. Perhaps you should just leave the country - prosecutors may not want to chase or try to extradite a former President.
Second, you have to deal with your severe financial problems, including IRS tax debts and loans coming due. In the past, you could bully your way through these problems - I don't think that will work now. Perhaps you could start a new media network, but this will also be much harder now that you have lost the election.
Third, with all due respect, your mental and physical condition is declining. As a pathologist, I know of no magic cures to restore your health. But I suggest that you start to work on your memoirs now, plus any other projects that are important to you, because you may not have that many productive years left to pursue them.
The key point is to resign now and move on. You are making it worse for yourself by staying in office and fighting what everyone else considers a losing battle.
