Are contracts with Trump, Musk or their companies voidable due to changed circumstances?
11 February 2025

This essay is a theoretical discussion of legal issues concerning contracts with Donald J. Trump, Elon Musk or their companies. I am not providing legal advice to anyone regarding their particular situation. You should consult with your own attorney before taking any action regarding these theories.
Donald J. Trump and Elon Musk are arguably among the most hated people on the planet, but this was not the case when many people entered into contracts with them or their businesses. At what point can one successfully argue that their behavior has effectively changed any contract with them or their businesses so much that they can be voided?
If, as I have predicted, there is a wave of protests and civil disobedience at the properties that Trump owns, it may be so disruptive that the tenants of these properties want to leave. This may also be true if they feel such revulsion at his deranged or insane behavior that they cannot continue to do business with him in any manner.
Similarly, Musk’s behavior is abhorrent. Many interpret it as constituting a coup by replacing our constitutional system of government with the whims of an unelected private citizen. This certainly was not what anyone would have expected even one year ago.
To date, there is no evidence of a massive public campaign against Trump and Musk. But if it develops, those who want to cancel contracts with them may have a legal reason to do so.
This is particularly important because Trump and Musk primarily care about their own finances. One of the most effective means to halt their dictatorial activity is to stop giving them money.
