Four Suggestions for Celebrating America’s 250th Birthday
24 June 2026
I thought this was a thoughtful essay by Chris Bowers on how we can celebrate our nation’s 250th birthday, even if we feel uncomfortable with our current national leadership.
His main points (click on the link for details):
• Celebrate what you love about America
• Spend the day connecting with history, not the news
• Make action and civic engagement part of your celebration
• Remember the importance of embracing rare experiences
America’s 250th birthday is a once in a lifetime opportunity to share in a defining moment in our nation’s history. Even if you feel conflicted, remember that America is bigger than any one leader or any one moment in politics.
Right here, right now, we have the privilege of experiencing together an event that will never come again. We can honor our past, acknowledge our challenges and recommit ourselves to building the country we want for the future.

My political blog focuses on what you can or should do to make the world a better place and yourself a better person. I have another blog on Cancer and Medicine.
I read all comments and try to respond briefly to questions about the blog’s content, but I cannot have a long conversation. I remove hate speech and personal attacks.
