Today, the Republican National Convention nominated Donald J. Trump as its Presidential candidate, but if he wins, he will be dictator for life.
Trump intends to be dictator for life
As previously indicated, Trump loves dictators, including Putin (Russia), Jinping (China), Jong Un (North Korea), Erdogan (Turkey) and Orbán (Hungary):
“He views himself as a big guy,” Bolton told Sciutto. “He likes dealing with other big guys, and big guys like Erdogan in Turkey get to put people in jail and you don’t have to ask anybody’s permission. He kind of likes that.” “He’s not a tough guy by any means, but in fact quite the opposite,” Kelly said. “But that’s how he envisions himself.”
Kelly noted that Trump praised Hitler and what he thought was the loyalty of Hitler’s generals (some of whom actually tried to assassinate him), but both Kelly and Bolton noted that he “most consistently lavished praise on Russian President Vladimir Putin.” Source
In contrast, Trump has repeatedly threatened to leave NATO, an organization of (mostly) democratic nations.
Trump does not trust election returns in which he loses, including in 2024
Former President Donald J. Trump has baselessly and publicly cast doubt about the fairness of the 2024 election about once a day, on average, since he announced his candidacy for president, according to an analysis by The New York Times.
Not only did he lead an insurrection after losing in 2020, but Trump and Republicans are already making plans to overturn a defeat in 2024.
The Republican Party and its conservative allies are engaged in an unprecedented legal campaign targeting the American voting system. Their wide-ranging and methodical effort is laying the groundwork to contest an election that they argue, falsely, is already being rigged against former President Donald J. Trump.
The campaign involves a powerful network of Republican lawyers and activist groups, working loosely in concert with the Republican National Committee. Many of the key players were active in Mr. Trump’s attempt to overturn the results of the 2020 election.
But unlike the chaotic and improvised challenge four years ago, the new drive includes a systematic search for any vulnerability in the nation’s patchwork election system.
Trump previously announced he would be a dictator on day 1 and that the constitution should be terminated. Since dictators only rarely give up power, we can assume that Trump will retain power until he dies.
As dictator for life, Trump will demand your loyalty at all times
Republicans have already indicated that challenging or criticizing Trump, as Biden and Democrats have done, is equivalent to promoting violence against him:
Sen. Tim Scott said, “This was an assassination attempt aided and abetted by the radical Left and corporate media.”
Rep. Mike Collins alleged Biden was behind the shooting, and then called for Biden’s arrest for the attempted assassination of Trump.
Sen. J.D. Vance, nominated as Trump’s Vice President, said Biden’s campaign rhetoric led to this.
This means if elected, criticizing Trump or his policies will also be considered akin to promoting violence against him. Since Trump has already discussed executing those disloyal to him and prosecuting his rivals (see also here), we will have to restrict everything we say or do that could be considered critical of him or his supporters. Big Brother will be part of every communication, everyone we talk to and everything we do. Privacy will no longer be a right.
Some Americans worship Trump. The rest of us should consider what we can do now to prevent him from becoming a dictator for life.
