Donald J. Trump as dictator is on the ballot in November 2024, with support from almost every Republican public official or candidate. They may disagree with him in private but they are not going to stop him.
The Lincoln Project has depicted the present and future:
If you are not scared, you are not paying attention.
We need to work hard and support Joe Biden and the Democratic Party. It doesn’t matter if you are a conservative. It doesn’t matter if you think Biden is too old. It doesn’t matter if you don’t like politics. What matters is if you believe in democracy. If you don’t vote Biden / Democratic, you are supporting a Trump dictatorship, America’s version of Adolph Hitler. It’s that simple.

Trump's Veterans Day speech mirrors Hitler's statements almost word for word:
In his Veterans Day speech on Saturday, former president Donald Trump used the language of Hitler and Mussolini to villainize and dehumanize non-MAGA people, calling them "vermin" and declaring that they are a greater threat to the United States than Russia, China or North Korea.
In response to Trump's menacing words, The Lincoln Project issued a video comparing Trump to dictators and Meidas Touch posted a list of nearly identical statements made by Hitler and Trump:
Hitler: I will get rid of the "communist" "vermin"
Trump: I will get rid of the "communist" "vermin"More here.
Trump’s Recipe for a Shockingly Raw Power Grab
The former president and his allies are reportedly planning to lay siege to the rule of law.
You can’t say Donald Trump didn’t warn us.
Trump and his think tank loyalists are collecting the ingredients and refining the recipe for an authoritarian regime should he win the 2024 presidential election. According to a page one story in The Washington Post Monday, Trump plans on the first day of his new administration to invoke the Insurrection Act so he can dispatch the military to counter any demonstrations that might resist his policies. More here.
Trump and allies plot revenge, Justice Department control in a second term
Advisers have also discussed deploying the military to quell potential unrest on Inauguration Day. Critics have called the ideas under consideration dangerous and unconstitutional.
Donald Trump and his allies have begun mapping out specific plans for using the federal government to punish critics and opponents should he win a second term, with the former president naming individuals he wants to investigate or prosecute and his associates drafting plans to potentially invoke the Insurrection Act on his first day in office to allow him to deploy the military against civil demonstrations.
In private, Trump has told advisers and friends in recent months that he wants the Justice Department to investigate onetime officials and allies who have become critical of his time in office, including his former chief of staff, John F. Kelly, and former attorney general William P. Barr, as well as his ex-attorney Ty Cobb and former Joint Chiefs of Staff chairman Gen. Mark A. Milley, according to people who have talked to him, who, like others, spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe private conversations. Trump has also talked of prosecuting officials at the FBI and Justice Department, a person familiar with the matter said.
In public, Trump has vowed to appoint a special prosecutor to “go after” President Biden and his family. The former president has frequently made corruption accusations against them that are not supported by available evidence. More here.
Trump’s extreme rhetoric conjures the prospect of a presidency like no other
Donald Trump is promising a second presidency that would be an aberration in American history.
The former and possibly future commander in chief aspires to strongman power if he wins back the White House next year. He believes his authority would be absolute. He wants vengeance against his political enemies. He’d pose the greatest challenge to the rule of law and the Constitution in modern times, seek to crush press freedoms and gut the machinery of government.
None of this is speculation. Trump is saying and showing exactly what he would do in his rallies, social media posts, interviews, lawyers’ filings and even appearances in court that he uses to stigmatize the legal system. And Trump’s ambitions should be taken seriously because one year from the election, President Joe Biden’s reelection hopes are far from secure. More here.
It can and is happening here. We must act - we can’t just say we will hope for the best. We need to make sure that Joe Biden wins, along with Democrats at the Federal and State level. If you are not supporting Biden and the Democratic Party in the 2024 election, you are part of the problem.
We cannot be Rambo and save the world by ourselves, but we can participate in the political process and do something every month to move the country in the right direction:
Write a check
Write a letter to the Editor
Write your elected officials
Join an organization
Attend a meeting
Talk to your friends and family
Other ideas are here.
We also have to think about shunning, to the extent possible, those who are supporting Trump and Republicans in a major way. This is not your Aunt Tilly. But it does include Fox News and any Murdoch publications, the Republican Party and its major supporters.
History will judge us by how we respond to this threat. What will history say about what you did to preserve democracy?
