Why don't Palestinians and their supporters give a damn about Palestinian lives in Gaza?
17 December 2024
The Washington Post reports that Hamas has “publicly softened its negotiating position with Israel”, which most of us consider good news because an end to the war would be good for almost everyone.
President Biden has been sending delegations regularly to Israel to put pressure on Israel to bring about a cease fire, similar to the ceasefire with Lebanon.
Israelis have been putting pressure on Prime Minister Netanyahu for over a year to bring about a settlement that releases the hostages. However, many suspect Netanyahu wants to prolong the war to stay in power.
What about the Palestinians, both in the U.S. and the Middle East and elsewhere? Why are they not protesting against the Palestinian government in Gaza to stop the war it started and release the hostages? They are quick to condemn Israel, the United States and Jewish organizations, but not their own government. As you may recall:
The Palestinians in Gaza elected Hamas as their government in relatively free and fair elections in 2006.
The Palestinians in Gaza and abroad have supported this government ever since, with minimal protests against their activities.
The Palestinians in Gaza have supported the terrorist activities of their government by building missiles, building 300+ miles of tunnels in Gaza, and misappropriating humanitarian funds for use in terrorist activities.
The Palestinians in Gaza have willingly agreed to hide missiles and other weapons, tunnels, militants and hostages for their government. There have been minimal protests in the Middle East or abroad.
Don’t the Palestinians, whether in the Middle East or abroad, give a damn about the lives of Palestinians in Gaza? Objectively, the answer is no. They don’t mind Palestinians dying if their deaths can be weaponized against Israel. This has, regrettably, been the mindset of Palestinians for decades. This, I believe, is why they are not protesting against the Palestinian government and are not demanding the release of the Israeli hostages, which would likely end the war.
To paraphrase a possible quote by Golda Meir, former Israeli Prime Minister - “there will only be peace when the Palestinians love their children more than they hate us.’ When will the Palestinians publicly reject terrorism, recognize Israel’s right to exist and try to build a viable, nonterrorist country? That is the future we should be working towards, but it requires marked changes in the behavior of Palestinians.
