No fan of Elon, but Tesla employs over 140,000 plus thousands of other suppliers and businesses. Would you be in favor of putting them all out of work?
They are not responsible for the actions of the CEO any more than Ford employees are responsible for the anti-sematic actions of Henry Ford, or the Honda employees in Ohio, for Pearl Harbor? Would you suggest that owners of a Ford or Honda quit the brand and sell their cars at a loss to get even? Who does that hurt?
The public may decide to punish Musk by attacking Tesla vehicles since that is relatively easy. This is a warning of the possibility. Of course, I may be wrong.
Yes, let X and Tesla both fold. Nothing will be lost, including jobs. When X goes under readers will shift to other media. Will people stop buying cars if Tesla ceases production? No, they will buy other electric cars and those factories will increase production to meet demand by hiring former Tesla workers to meet consumption.
Thanks for this great article, Nat. I haven’t used X or Meta for years, and don’t own a Tesla. But what about stopping my shopping from Amazon? I know I’m not the only one who (and I have some shame saying it,) is struggling with this. I did cancel my WaPo subscription however. When we talk about the evil of Trump and his regime, we notice (but are not surprised by) the fact that everything he’s done since he was inaugurated involves taking things away from people. Taking away lunches from schoolchildren and food away from WIC families (Women, Infants and Children. Let’s absorb that for a minute: TAKING FOOD AWAY FROM INFANTS), taking away the lives people had here through immigrant “round-ups” (one man from Honduras witnessed a murder at age 17 and fled here because of threats against his life), taking away a feeling of safety from children at school, taking away the possibility of lower drug prices, taking away a sense of safety from all those who may be targets of the 1,500 thugs he pardoned or whose security detail he canceled, taking away birthright citizenship. And on and on and on. What has he GIVEN since he was inaugurated? A lower price of something? A new helpful program? Some reassurance to alleviate anxiety about one of America’s many crises? I don’t think he’s given one damn thing except thrill and glee to Trumpers who hate liberals. But oh, the heady rush of POWER that courses through Trump when he causes terror, grief and despair for as many people as possible. THAT’s what he’s all about.
Thanks for your comment. I agree, but to keep this essay short, I was just focusing on Musk. I will write in the future about Fox, Amazon and other billionaire companies.
I am not on Twitter ( I refuse to call it X) never have been.. would not own a Tesla. I rarely use Amazon. But is there a good place to find the names of Trump supporters or advertisers on Twitter and Amazon? When people were boycotting advertisers on the Rush Limbaugh show there was a site that listed them. Is there such a thing now?
Understood — I was just thinking about what I can do.

I just do Internet searches - "major advertisers on X" or Fox or major supporters of Trump. This is "dropfox.com", https://dropfox.com/advertisers/
In my opinion the cybertruck is by far the ugliest vehicle I’ve ever seen.
